The House of Learning
At CB Civil, learning and development is an important part of how we grow our people and our business.
Our approach starts with our identity, Te Whare Whānui - The House of Learning. This reflects our commitment to building capability across the wider organisation.
We see this investment as bigger than individual career progression. By helping our people build their skills and experience, we strengthen CB Civil while also contributing to a more capable and professional construction industry.
Our goal is to develop skilled, confident people who can perform at a high level, take on greater responsibility, and build rewarding careers - creating better outcomes for our business as well as the communities we are part of.
Training & Education
Development looks different for everyone. We support our people to build the skills, qualifications, and experience they need to grow in their roles and progress their careers.
Depending on the role, this can include:
- Industry qualifications and certifications
- Technical and role-specific training
- Leadership development
- Opportunities to take on greater responsibility
Managers and leaders play an active role in supporting development, helping employees identify goals and map out a pathway to achieve them over time.
Improving Digital Literacy
As part of our wider training and development programme, we identified an opportunity to better support employees with everyday digital skills.
Through the Life Online course, participants completed practical training based on real workplace scenarios and documentation, including pre-starts and Job Safety and Environmental Analyses. The programme ran over approximately 16 weeks and was designed to build confidence as well as capability.
It resulted in strong engagement and positive feedback from participants. For many, completing the course provided a clear first step in their development journey and the confidence to keep building their skills.
