Protecting our environment
The civil infrastructure we build has a lasting relationship with the environment around it. At CB Civil, we work to reduce environmental impact through the way our projects are planned, designed, and delivered - from the methodology and materials we select, through to our waste and site environmental controls.
As a self-performing civil contractor, we are able to identify practical opportunities to improve environmental outcomes while still meeting programme, quality, and commercial requirements.
Environmental management and accountability
CB Civil operates an ISO 14001:2015 certified Environmental Management System (EMS), independently certified by Telarc. Our EMS provides a structured framework for managing environmental risks, responsibilities and performance across our construction, project management and Early Contractor Involvement services in New Zealand.
We have held ISO 14001 certification since 2019, with our current certification valid through to June 2028.
Smarter construction
Early Contractor Involvement and value engineering give our teams the opportunity to test alternative methodologies before work begins. Where appropriate, this can reduce material use, unnecessary construction activity, water consumption and associated carbon emissions while still meeting project requirements.
Waste and resources
We follow a practical avoid, reduce, reuse and recycle approach to construction materials and waste. Opportunities can include reusing site-won materials, selecting recycled products and recovering resources that may otherwise be disposed of.
Protecting the natural environment
Our projects often interact with waterways, vegetation and sensitive receiving environments. Environmental controls are tailored to each project, with specialist, client and mana whenua input incorporated where relevant.
